When a person is cremated, their body is placed in a cremation chamber and heated to a very high temperature. This process reduces the body to ashes, which are then placed in an urn.
What is Removed from a Body Before Cremation?
Before a body is cremated, there are a few things that must be removed. This includes:
- Pacemakers and other battery-operated implants: These devices must be removed because they can cause the cremator to explode.
- Metal items: Metal items can be cremated with a body, but if the family wishes to keep any jewellery or other items, they must let the funeral director know so that these items can be removed before cremation.
- Clothing and other personal items: If the family wishes, clothing and other personal items can be included in the coffin with the deceased. This could include things like a favourite book, a piece of jewellery, or a photograph.
What Happens to the Body Before Cremation?
At Variety Funerals™ before cremation the deceased rests in a refrigerated mortuary and is then placed in a coffin. The family can choose to dress the deceased in clothing of their choice, or they can choose a coffin gown.
What Should Families Know About Clothing for Cremation?
At Variety Funerals™ if the family wishes the deceased to be cremated in certain clothing, they should provide this clothing with the deceased when the deceased is collected. Please note different funeral directors may have different policies regarding clothing for cremation.
How Does the Cremation Process Work?
The cremation process takes place in a cremation chamber. The body is placed in a coffin and then placed in the chamber. The chamber is then heated to a very high temperature. The heat causes the body to break down into its basic elements. The remaining ashes are then collected and placed in an urn.
What Happens to the Ashes After Cremation?
The ashes from a cremation can be disposed of in a number of ways. They can be scattered at sea, buried in a cemetery, or kept in an urn.
Variety Funerals™ can help you with all of your cremation needs. We can help you choose a cremation package, arrange the cremation, and help you with the disposition of the ashes.
